Daytime (above) and nighttime (below) pictures of Nightmares.

[Nightmares outside]

Nightmares was on a completely different street called Victoria Avenue, which was actually less than a block from our hotel.  The outside of Nightmares was relatively plain compared to its competition, so I was not expecting much.  It seemed to be lacking the carnival atmosphere the other rides seemed to showcase.

[Nightmares neon sign outside]

The neon Nightmares sign on the outside of the attraction.

There was this recorded story about a casket company playing on a loop and in the window you could see caskets which seem to contradict the idea of nightmares, but either way we headed in. We made our way up to this showcase room where this angry kid was working the tickets.  He looked like he was disturbed and he barely talked at all.  We tried to joke with him but he just made this weird unfriendly gaze that was kind of unsettling.

We headed into the ride and were instantly surrounded by compete darkness except for the little red lights that you were supposed to follow.  We made our way through the pitch dark visually clinging to the red lights like it was our life line but having something or someone screaming or yelling from every dark corner.  One minute you would be looking at a morbid scene and the next a panel of spikes would be coming at your face and then the lights would quickly extinguish, or the lights would flash on for a second and bodies would be hanging all around you and then the lights would instantly go out.

[execution]

An execution scene.

The little red lights would disappear and so would the doors and then you would be trapped in a little black room with no exit and then the ceiling would shrink and you would be forced to crawl on the floor.  This ride was absolutely terrifying and fun.  Sandee was screaming the whole time.  There was one scene where a car was actually chasing us.  There was also a part where there was a grinder sparking fire at our feet.

[sparks]

Flying sparks take you by surprise when you least expect it.  Where is the fire inspector?

This was by far the scariest haunted ride I can ever remember being on and we had a great time. The only criticism is that the outside facade of the ride could have been designed better.  On a scale of 1 through 5, I give this haunted attraction a 4 1/2.
