Brighton Asylum
2 Brighton Ave.
Passaic, NJ 07055
I went to Brighton Asylum with co-workers on Valentines Day 2014 for their bloody valentine haunted house and was excited to go to a haunt fairly close to New York. We pulled into a dark parking lot and were confused by the industrial complex this haunt is located in. We parked the car and proceeded to meet and greet our friends, then make our way to the front door.
Brighton Asylum does extensive Internet ads and is always trying new things, like having a haunt on different holidays such as Valentines day. I can respect their extensive marketing. Their haunt was located in a large space sectioned off inside an industrial building complex, so the facade is basically non existent which does not add to the ambiance of the event. We were greeted by the staff and they were friendly and very inviting.
The entrance area had a guy in an excellent Harry Warden costume from My Bloody Valentine, the original movie. They also had on display items from a recently released horror comedy romance. Once we all took pictures with Harry Warden, we proceeded into the haunt. My first main issue was there were no ceilings to the basic haunt maze which is a problem with creating the illusion the scenes are contained. We made our way through various scenes depicting Harry Warden and other mining scenes with actors popping out here and there. The asylum theme is lacking but they do have some scenes that remind you of that creepy idea. There were some odd scenes that were not running congruent, like a poorly done jungle scene. The notable stunts and scenes were basically two in my opinion. The first was a bench that an actor sits you in and then it droped back which was fun. The second was a giant snake head at the end that comes out at you, which is becoming a common scene in haunts. Overall, I don't recommend this haunt. It has a long way to go before it becomes quality and it's far too short in length.
On a scale from 5 to dead, I rank it a 2 (Deaths Door).
